From Dominique Aegerter’s point of view, the first day of racing at this year’s round of the FIM Supersport World Championship in northern Italy went very pleasant. With a ninth-place finish in the race shortly after lunch time, the 35-year-old Swiss rider made it back into the top ten after a long dry spell.

Dominique Aegerter and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team’s increasing level of performance was already evident on Friday, when teammate Jeremy Alcoba charged to pole position in Superpole and Aegerter secured twelfth starting spot on the fourth row. 

On Saturday morning, Aegerter once again demonstrated his strong form with a fifth-place finish in warm-up session. The 19th race of the season began at 2:00 p.m. under ideal conditions but had to be interrupted by a red flag after just two laps. Following an incident involving two riders, neither of whom was injured, the track had to be cleaned.

For the restart, the race distance was shortened to 13 laps. As in the first race, Aegerter was unable to capitalize on his good starting position and dropped down several positions in the opening lap. After that, the Kawasaki rider got stuck in traffic for a while. As the race progressed, however, he managed to make up ground bit by bit and crossed the finish line in ninth place, just under ten seconds behind the winner, Alcoba. 

After a season that has been largely difficult so far, Aegerter and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team achieved a long-awaited breakthrough with this victory and a ninth-place finish today. The timing and venue couldn’t have been more perfect than at the Cremona Circuit, which is practically right on the team’s doorstep.

The second race of the weekend will start at the same time on Sunday.

«I’m happy that, after some time, I finished Race 1 in the top ten again, and, more important, P9 allowed us to score some good points. It was a lot of fun today because I had plenty of exciting battles with other riders. Even though we always want a more, I’m taking the positives with me, because we’re finally on the right track and I’m getting a slightly better feeling with the bike. I hope we can improve a bit more during tomorrow morning’s warm-up. I’ll have to start the second race from a bit further back, though. I think I’ll be 15th on the grid, which of course isn’t exactly helpful. But I remain confident and will give it my all to wrap up this important weekend for us with another top ten finish. But first, congratulations to Jeremy on his first victory in World Supersport. I’m incredibly happy for him and the team that we were able to achieve this success here at the team’s home round. But I’m also happy for the entire Kawasaki family, because we haven’t had the easiest of times this year. So, congratulations to everyone, and enjoy this moment.»
