In his third season with Italian based GYTR GTR Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Dominique Aegerter wants to make a final breakthrough this year in FIM Superbike World Championship.
From Dominique Aegerter's point of view, it is not presumptuous to describe 2024 as an epidemic year. At the beginning, a persistent illness prevented the Swiss motorcycle racer from taking part in the important pre-season tests. Aegerter was hit even harder by a training accident in August, after which he missed three events of the series’ calendar due to injury.
Aegerter has used the long winter break to get back to 100 percent fitness. An annoying reminder of the training accident, a plate in his right shoulder, will be removed on Saturday. After that, there should be no more restrictions on the racing machine. The goals for this season, which is Aegerter's third in the top-class Superbike World Championship, were also set at the team’ presentation. His team colleague this year is once again Australian rider Remy Gardner.
Another two-day test is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve near the Portuguese port city of Portimao. Aegerter and his team are hoping for better and more stable weather than last week in Jerez before all the equipment is shipped for the World Championship’s opener in Australia in four weeks' time.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)
«2024 was a challenging season, but I think it has made me stronger. Our start last year was difficult because I missed pre-season testing In Jerez and Portimao, which definitely was not ideal. Nevertheless, we were able to achieve good results in the first races. Unfortunately, our progress was stopped by an injury in mid-season, which I sufferd while I was training and had to miss a few races as a result. Fortunately, I was able to return for the last two race weekends and produce a good effort with the team, and now I feel strong and confident for the coming season. I would like to thank Yamaha for the support they have given me, as well as my partners and sponsors. The goal is certainly to be consistently at the front and to get back on the podium. We have proven that we can do it and we will continue to work towards it.»
