2024/07/19 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Czech Round / Friday's Free Practice Sessions

Big leap in the afternoon boosts confidence

After a difficult start to the weekend, Dominique Aergerter had to overcome a high-speed crash on Friday afternoon in Most either.

After a fresh summer in England last weekend, conditions changed significantly at round six of FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodrom Most today. As is typical for this time of year in Central Europe, day one the north-west of the Czech Republic was characterized by very hot temperatures.

This morning’s free practice one did not go according to plan for Dominique Aegerter. A long meeting afterwards with his technicians resulted in changes to his Yamaha Superbike, thanks to which the 33-year-old from the canton of Bern was able to set competitive lap times in the afternoon again, until a crash on his second run in FP2 put the brakes on his drive. Aegerter finished Friday in 13th place, just under a second behind the leaders.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)
FP1: P20 - 1´33.671 / FP2: P13 - 1´32.501

«It was a pretty difficult start this morning because I struggled to feel the limit. So, the first practice session showed again how competitive Superbike is, because if things do not go the way you want them to and you just miss the feeling right away, you quickly end up 20th position on the timesheets. That is why we worked hard during the break until the afternoon session and as a reward we were able to improve by more than a second. But the others also made a step forward. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the improvement we achieved.»

«Unfortunately, I had a crash with the new tyre, which cost us a good 15 minutes of track time. We still have work to do, and I will also have my neck checked, because the crash happened at a very fast place. A big thank you to my crew, who repaired my bike in a flash so that I could go out again at the end of the session doing a practise start at least, which is also very important in this category. It is also nice to see that there were so many fans in the grandstands on Friday. In FP3 tomorrow morning we will give it our all so that we are as well prepared as possible for Superpole.»
