2024/07/14 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: UK Round / Sunday - Superpole Race & Race 2

Less reward for lots of efforts

Dominique Aegerter had to work hard on Sunday to take home seven points at the end of the day.

The weather in central England was also kind to the teams and riders on race Sunday. In dry conditions, high-class motorcycle racing was on offer at the traditional Donington Park circuit. Dominique Aegerter, who had qualified for fifth place on the second row of the grid on Saturday, was able to start this morning’s Superpole Race with 10 laps from this position either. The 33-year-old Swiss rider finished the first lap in seventh place before becoming embroiled in fierce battles for position. On the last lap, ninth place seemed almost certain. However, two rivals saw things differently and squeezed past the Swiss at one point.

Aegerter also got off to a good start from the fourth row in the second main race of the weekend and immediately made up two positions. On the third lap, he was overtaken by his team mate Remy Gardner and an exciting duel broke out between the two. On lap 15, Aegerter made the decisive attack on the Australian. However, his joy at his hard-fought ninth place was limited.

Grid position 5 / Superpole Race: P11 / Grid position 10 / Race 2: P9

«The Superpole Race this morning was very exhausting. I did my best over the entire distance. It began with a good start, and I pushed hard to keep my position. But on the second lap I made a mistake in the chicane, which dropped me back to eleventh place. After that, I managed to fight my way back up to ninth place. But on the last lap, I was pushed wide by two riders, which is why I had to leave the track briefly and crossed the line only eleventh. I had to start the second race in the afternoon from tenth on the grid and got off to a good start again. I then tried to defend my position, which was around tenth place.»

«As long as I did not have a rider in front of me, I was pretty fast. I was able to close the gap to Andrea Locatelli a bit. But it soon became a tough battle with several riders who were very competitive and pulled out all the tricks. At the finish, our gap to the winner was smaller than yesterday. That was an improvement. But I am definitely not satisfied with ninth place. Nevertheless, we can build on it. Luckily, we do not have a long break now, we are going straight on to Most. But before that I need some rest, because Most is a physically demanding track. Finally, I would like to thank the fans and my team for their great work, and we will see us already in a few days again.»
