2024/06/13 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Emilia-Romagna Round - Preview

Misano puts an end to a long wait

Dominique Aegerter is looking forward to the world championship round in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. A test two weeks ago at the same venue and a successful one-off to Swiss Supermoto Championship further boosts his confidence.

After an unusually long break in the current calendar, FIM Superbike World Championship returns to action this weekend with the meeting at the Misano World Circuit, where the series is always received with great passion. The last time teams and riders were out hunting for points was on April 24th in Assen in the Netherlands.

33-year-old Swiss native Dominique Aegerter and his Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team bridged the break with two tests, first at the Cremona Circuit and then in Misano. To shorten the final waiting time until the restart of the season, Aegerter competed in Lignieres aboard his Yamaha Supermoto bike and the all-rounder took victory on that day.

Meanwhile, there has also been a change to the series’ calendar. The World Championship’s debut race at Hungary’s Balaton Park Circuit scheduled for the end of August has been cancelled. Instead of that, Estoril, Portugal, has been added for the weekend around October 13.

ServusTV will be reporting live from the main races in Misano. The broadcast starts on Saturday (with a recording of Tissot Superpole) at 13:30 and on Sunday (with recording Tissot Superpole Race) at 13:10. Eurosport 1, on the other hand, has only one live broadcast in its program this weekend: Race 1 on Saturday afternoon from 13:45. On Sunday there will be a recording from 18:00. All sessions can be followed via the "ServusTV On" app or online via the website ServusTV Online as well as via the paid live stream on the official WorldSBK website.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"Our test two weeks ago in Misano gives me a lot of confidence for this weekend because we were able to collect valuable data and also found some solutions that give me a better feeling for the bike. We also managed to make up some ground after missing winter testings at the beginning of the season. But it was also time to get back on my Yamaha Superbike after a long wait. Now we finally have another race weekend ahead of us and I am really looking forward to Misano. It is my team's home race, where the support of the many Italian fans is very tangible."

"Apart from that, Misano is also a bit of a home race for me, because it is not far from Switzerland, and I can well imagine that many fans come from home to support me. I have always liked the track and we have had some good races in the past. My goal is to finish in the top 6, which I hope I can achieve this weekend. My preparation has definitely been good. Last weekend I took part in a race in Swiss Supermoto Championship, with some success. That was a lot of fun. But now my full concentration is on the WorldSBK weekend in Misano."
