2023/11/01 - FIM Superbike World Championship: First winter testing in Jerez

Jerez test ends with productive second day

Dominique Aegerter completed 67 laps at the Circuito de Jerez on Wednesday afternoon, setting a personal best in1'40.103.

Just two days after the exciting and for Dominique Aegerter everything outshining season’s finale with two podium finishes began for the 33-year-old Swiss rider and his Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK team and for most teams and riders in Superbike World Championship the new season with a two-day test in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Changeable weather on the first day with a rainy afternoon prevented a reasonable work on track, so all hopes were directed to the weather forecast for Wednesday. Promptly, the sun shone again from the early morning hours, but it took a long time for the wet spots to disappear over the course of a lap. From lunch time, track conditions were then usable, so that the test could finally begin in full manner. Aegerter and his crew also immediately began the first preparations for 2024, which are expected to continue in Jerez de la Frontera at the end of January.

"As the track dried out very slowly after yesterday's rain, we decided to go out on track only from 1 to 5pm. This saved us half a day of our testing days. Yamaha brought a few new items to try, and we also worked a little bit with the clutch. There were a few things going in a good direction. The problem to draw more precise conclusions was due to the tyres, because with the X type, we had more grip last weekend. Still, we were consistently fast. What I mean by that is that we were always able to race the pace from the second race on Sunday afternoon."

"Unfortunately, the test didn't end the way I had hoped, as I went down once in turn one and then couldn't set the lap with the qualifying tyre together. But congratulations to my team mate Remy Gardner, who set a strong time in the end. He and his crew got the best out of two runs with the soft qualifier. They understood how to set up the bike perfectly for it. That can only be good for me next time."
