2023/09/22 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Aragon Round / Friday's Free Practice Sessions

Successful opening day in Aragón

Dominique Aegerter was pleased with Friday's practice sessions at the third-last FIM Superbike World Championship meeting of the season and is looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

After finishing in eleventh place this morning and eighth in free practice two in the afternoon, Dominique Aegerter ended up in ninth place in the combined timesheets of the day, which the 32-year-old Swiss can live with, especially as he finished the day as the second-best Yamaha rider. However, Aegerter still wants to polish up the gap to the day's fastest lap time before qualifying in order to give himself a good starting position for the races.

On Saturday morning, the third free practice session is all about fine-tuning before Aegerter aims to secure a good grid position in Superpole for the first main race of the weekend. Start time is at 14:00. Eurosport is live in German-speaking countries, as is the paid stream on worldsbk.com, where all sessions can be seen. ServusTV will bring a recording from 15:00.

FP1: P11 - 1´51.937 / FP2: P8 - 1´50.960

"Aragon is very different from most other tracks and, as I have mentioned several times, it is not one of my favourites. Nevertheless, it is fun to race here. I would say that we started the weekend strong with an eleventh and an eighth place, even if the gap to the top is still big. But compared to the other Yamahas we are well in the game. I also can imagine that other riders have a little advantage after having a test here a few weeks ago."

"We will work hard in the team and with the Yamaha people to find a good setup and also to tune the electronics optimally. I think if we use more grip and improve the turning a little bit, we will be much stronger at this track. My thanks go to the whole team because they are leaving no stone unturned. Tomorrow the conditions should be similar to today, hopefully with less winds. I definitely want to be in the top ten in the race and maybe even a little further forward in qualifying."
