2023/07/26 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Czech Round / Preview

Most with Superbike still new territory

Nevertheless, Dominique Aegerter wants to return to his usual level of performance at the last event of the Superbike World Championship before the long summer break this weekend in Most, Czech Republic.

The eighth stop of the WorldSBK series takes teams and riders of the top-class championship with production-based 1000cc racing machines to the Autodrom Most, located in the northwest of the country. The venue was just added to the championship’s calendar three years ago. Dominique Aegerter is familiar with the twisty 4.2-kilometer track from the past two years, when he was successful in Supersport World Championship.

However, with his current machine, the significantly more powerful Yamaha R1, Aegerter has not yet gained any experience with the predominantly fast and flowing tracke on the outskirts of Most. Therefore, in corresponding excitement, the experienced 32-year-old motorcycle racing pro from the canton of Bern is looking forward to the first practice laps on Friday morning. Aegerter wants to get familiarize himself with the conditions as quickly as possible in order to go into the vacations with a good feeling thanks to better results.

As usual, the race weekend begins on Friday with two free practice sessions at 10:30 and 15:00, followed by the third free practice session on Saturday morning, as well as the decisive Superpole qualifying session on Saturday morning and the first main race at 14:00 on the same day in the afternoon. Sunday's schedule includes the sprint race back at the normal time of 11:00 am and the second main race of the weekend at 2:00 pm. ServusTV offers extensive live coverage, and there is also the live stream on worldsbk.com.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"After falling short of expectations at the last two race weekends in Donington and Imola, I cannot wait to get back on my Yamaha Superbike. I am really looking forward to Most, even if memories of last year are not very nice. Apart from that, the track is not easy, peppered with a very tight first chicane. This place is really very slow. It was already a key spot with the Supersport bike but still I like the layout."

"Between Imola and my departure for Most, I had the opportunity to spend a few days at Mugello with "Yamaha Racing Experience". It was a lot of fun to be there and thus shorten the waiting time for Most. The goal for this weekend is clear. We need to be more competitive again after not being where we should be in Donington and Imola. I also hope that my arm causes less problems than last time. That certainly also prevented me a little from giving my 100 percent. I'm looking forward to another summer race weekend, even though it could be very hot again, and also to ride my Yamaha R1 again. I am curious to see how it will be with the R1 in Most."
