2022/09/09 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: French Round / Friday's FP Report

Dominique Aegerter: «Consistently back and forth»

Opening day of the first race weekend after the long summer break was characterized by changeable weather.

Round seven of the season at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in Burgundy, France, marks the start of the second half of the FIM Supersport World Championship. For riders and teams, however, changeable conditions during both Friday’s free practice sessions were a difficult task to master. At a drying track, Dominique Aegerter started the weekend with a 13th place in free practice one, which was anything but worthless.

With more sunshine a few hours later and much better track conditions, the points leader was back in the game at the latest in the decisive phase of FP2. Aegerter finished the day in third place of the combined timesheet.

The first race of the weekend will start on Saturday afternoon at 15:15 local time. As usual, there will be a live stream on ServusTV.com. The starting grid will be determined in Superpole from 10:25 to 10:45 LT, which will also be live streamed by the Austrian broadcaster.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6)
FP1: P13 - 1´53.289 / FP2: P3 - 1´41.915

"First of all, I would like to say that I am happy to be back with the Ten Kate team. However, the weekend started with a long and strange Friday. I do not know Magny-Cours that well yet, but I think it was pretty normal weather conditions for this time of year in this area. It was constantly changing from back and forth. It started to rain about five times, and it was dry just as often. The day started with a wet FP1 before the track dried out a bit later on. At least in the afternoon it was almost completely dry towards the end of the session. In the last ten minutes, the track’s conditions were pretty usable, allowing lap times about 1.5 seconds slower than last year."

"The last few weeks have been very stressful for me. First, I had to clinch the overall win in MotoE and then I got to test the Suzuki MotoGP bike earlier this week. Everything together was very exciting, and emotions were boiling up to deal with these wonderful moments. It was not easy, to get back into race routine. Apart from that, we have to start with a strong qualifying on Saturday, which also includes the tyre choice for the race. This task will certainly be difficult for everyone, as there was not enough time today to even come close to do a race simulation with both options. Hopefully the weather will be more stable. At least for the race, it would be desirable for it to either rain or be completely dry, because a gamble always carries a big risk. But I feel ready, and I can count on great support thanks to the many sponsors and guests who are visiting us this weekend. So, we will try to fight for the podium."
