2022/09/06 - FIM MotoGP™ World Championship: Misano Test / Report

Dominique Aegerter: «I was screaming into my helmet!»

The 31-year-old Swiss rider will be raving about his day as a MotoGP test rider for a long time to come after putting in a very decent performance aboard the factory Suzuki in Misano on Tuesday.

The invitation to this opportunity came as a surprise to Dominique Aegerter after Suzuki factory rider Joan Mir had to miss the San Marino Grand Prix due to an ankle injury and his replacement from last weekend, Japanese rider Kazuki Watanabe, was unavailable due to other commitments. The MotoE™ World Cup title win last Saturday was also a deciding factor.

The adventure began for Aegerter shortly after half past nine in the morning when he took to the track for the first time riding the Suzuki GSX-RR. He had two sets of tyres at his disposal, with which he completed a total of 44 laps and in the end made an impressive impression with a personal best effort in 1´33.907. Around noon the test was over, as Suzuki had completed its program with Aegerter and its second factory rider Alex Rins. Aegerter was most impressed by the speed and performance of the Suzuki GSX-RR, which he was able to test for half a day at the Misano World Circuit in Italy.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Team SUZUKI ECSTAR, Suzuki GSX-RR):

"It is hard to put into words what I was able to experience today - it was just an incredibly great experience that I will never forget. Right at the start I want to thank Suzuki again for putting their bike into my hands, and also my Ten Kate team for giving me this opportunity. On my first lap I was so impressed with the power and grip, it was indescribable. Then when I hit the straight for the first time I was screaming into my helmet! I improved with every run, and it was also great to work with these guys in the garage and getting an inside taste all the things a real MotoGP bike has to offer. I quickly understood the carbon brakes, but the big lean angles you can do with a bike like this didn't feel quite right yet. All in all, though, it was a great honour and pleasure for me to ride the Suzuki with which Joan became MotoGP World Champion in 2020."
