2022/05/26 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: Gran Premio d'Italia / Preview

Tuscany’s Mugello circuit: new territory for MotoE™

For this weekend’s round three of the e-bike series, Dominique Aegerter returns to picturesque Mugello in the heart of Tuscany.

When meanwhile 31-year-old Dominique Aegerter contested his last full season in Moto2™ World Championship back in 2019, he also had to bid a temporary farewell to one of the most spectacular events in the world of two-wheels racing. The Gran Premio d'Italia has always been a highlight of the season in the past and it again will be so this year when the MotoE™ World Cup visits the track not far from Florence for the first time. Unlike last year, when this Grand Prix was held without spectators, this weekend the numerous natural grandstands around the Mugello circuit are once again expected to be sold out to the last seat and the motorsports loving Tifosi will be frenetically cheering on the racers.

Dominique Aegerter, who recently took the lead in the overall Cup standings with his first win of the season in Le Mans, is expecting an exciting race weekend at one of the fastest tracks in the calendar. Aegerter and his technical crew from the German Dynavolt Intact GP team are also looking to continue their momentum even though the track is still unfamiliar in Italy.

Both races will again be shown by Swiss Television as a live stream. The broadcast will start 10 minutes before the start.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"The season is getting more and more into gear in both racing series I compete. In MotoE, we also have the third event this weekend for which I am particularly looking forward to. Apart from Mugello being a new experience with the e-bike, I cannot wait to race at this incredibly beautiful track again after three years. I am curious to see how it will be aboard the MotoE on the long straight. There will be definitely a lot of slipstream duels along these 1,1 kilometres. So exciting races are to be expected. On paper, we are in a good position, but it will be important to do as many laps as possible on Friday to develop a feeling for the track. We have a good base setup, but for each track it needs some fine-tuning."

"And this is what we have to manage during free practice sessions so that we can deliver a strong qualifying session on Friday afternoon and thus secure a promising grid position for the races on Saturday and Sunday. in Le Mans we took the lead in the points table, and I come to Mugello with the good feeling of two race wins last weekend in Supersport World Championship, where I am also the leader in the overall standings. I have had a strong run recently, which I hope I can continue this weekend. Our goal is to fight for the podium again, and if possible, for victory in both races. I am also looking forward to the incomparable atmosphere at Mugello, which I consider as a home race because of its proximity to my homeland. I am sure many Swiss fans will come and mingle with the thousands of motorsports loving Tifosi."
