2020/07/26 - MotoE™ World Cup 2020: GP de Andalucía / Race Report

Total success at hot Jerez

Pole position and superior race victory on Sunday: Dominique Aegerter dominated the second race of the season this weekend at will.

For Dominique Aegerter, the change from the Moto2™ to the e-bikes series was apparently not a significant hurdle. Already at his debut race a week ago, the class newcomer surprised with second on the starting grid and third place in the race. At the second event of the MotoE™ World Cup, which was only launched a year ago, this weekend also in Jerez, the 29-year-old rider from Rohrbach was the one to beat from the beginning. After a turbulent initial phase in the race he did not give his opponents a chance to challenge him for today’s victory.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Race winner:

"I'm overjoyed! It is hard for me to describe my feelings in words because I never thought that I could win in my only second MotoE race. In any case, it is a wonderful feeling to be back on the top of the podium after a long time. But we have worked incredibly hard over the past few days to get there. We have looked at the data from the first race a lot and tried to improve in many small details. It was a strong start to the series last weekend. But it is particularly important to keep developing and making progress. Therefore, we were able to improve with every session. The conditions were exactly the same as last weekend. So, we were able to compare some different settings well. My crew always did a great job in these conditions. It is not a matter of course in this heat to stay fully concentrated from early in the morning until late in the evening for over two weeks now. So, thanks guys, you've been great!"

"The race was incredibly exhausting despite the short distance with just six laps. The fight in the first two laps was awfully close and hard. But I knew that I had the pace to get away from the front. So, I gave everything to pull away from the pack as quickly as possible, otherwise it would have been a hot box. In the end I managed to check-out at the front and bring home my first victory safely. Once again, my thanks to all who gave me this chance and who continue to support this project in times like these. I also hope that the fans at home in front of the TV also enjoyed the action. I'm happy for them that we played a leading role today."

"After this brutally long stay in this heat here in Jerez, I'm looking forward to a short break at home in Switzerland. On the other hand, it is a bit of a pity that we will have a longer break until the next race. As a racer, you naturally want to continue right away particularly in that strong level of performance as we are at the moment. But I am already looking forward to Misano. I love the track there more than anything. In Misano we will have three races at once. So that can only be good for us because, unlike some other riders, this track is new for us. So, our opponents will start the weekend with a small advantage. But we will work all the harder to make up for this disadvantage as quickly as possible. We want to be in the top group again in every session there. Hopefully by then all the riders who hurt themselves here in Jerez will be healthy and fit again."
