2020/07/25 - MotoE™ World Cup 2020: GP de Andalucía / E-Pole Report

Outstanding lap to secure pole position in second race of the season

Dominique Aegerter has since long established himself amongst the top riders, not at least because of his sensational ride to the top spot of the starting grid in his only second appearance in the electric bike racing series.

The 29-year-old motorcycle professional rider from Rohrbach in the canton of Berne hit the MotoE™ World Cup like a bomb. Hardly any other competitor has been in the previous sessions of this weekend, as well as a week ago at the season opener, as often and consistently placed in top positions as Dominique Aegerter. As the fastest overall of free practice sessions, the class’ rookie was the first contender for pole position in E-Pole on Saturday afternoon. In the end, the experienced Aegerter did not let himself be put off by his role of the favourite either.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Pole-Position - 1´48.158:

"I am super happy that we are on pole in the second race already. But we have done a lot for this success. In this heat the circumstances are much more difficult than elsewhere. In the big tent, where the MotoE boxes are located, it is noticeably even hotter. This makes working conditions for the mechanics and crews much more difficult. But we did not allow ourselves to be impressed, we consistently carried out our tasks. During practice sessions we mainly worked on our race pace and made good progress in this respect. In addition, we succeeded in improving our performance in the almost brutal heat in the afternoon when temperatures significantly raise. In these conditions I have had a little more difficulty so far. But in my time attack I benefited well from these adjustments. Nevertheless, it was not easy to make the best out of the situation."

"This qualification mode is still overly exciting for me. In this one lap you have to dose the risk very precisely. Under no circumstances a fall might happen, that is quite clear. On the other hand, you have to be very careful not to exceed the limits of the track. Otherwise the lap is just as lost, and all the efforts would have been for nothing. In this respect, I managed an exceptionally good lap today and I am also satisfied with my lap time. Pole position on the grid is certainly the best starting position to do the hole shot. But then the first two or three laps will be decisive. Luckily, we will be racing in the early morning, where the track has even more grip due to the lower track temperatures. I am looking forward to that because it suits better my riding. Nevertheless, in the short distance with only six laps, nothing should get in the way. Thanks to the team, to all sponsors for their support. With this first success we justify their trust."
