2019/05/19 - Moto2™ WM 2019: GP France / Race Report

After strong comeback unrewarded

In Sunday’s round five of the season, Dominique Aegerter had to give up hopes for continuing his points scoring series just a few metres from the finish line.

For Dominique Aegerter, the Grand Prix de France ended with a great disappointment. Going into the race from P25 on the starting grid, however, it took him a while to overtake the guys in front of him. Once the Swiss rider found his rhythm, however, Aegerter immediately stormed into the top-15 until his race bike went on to strike during the last lap.

In two weeks, Mugello will be the first classic race of the current championship calendar.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Idealavoro Forward, MV Agusta F2), NC:

"Except from a few raindrops this morning, the weather was stable all day long. But we went out with slick tyres during warm-up session and tested different geometry settings. I felt very comfortable. We’ve made further changes for the race. Our tyre choice was then the hard compound. That was also the best option as temperatures were significantly cooler. I also got off a good start, but during the early laps it was difficult to overtake. It was only from halfway point of the race that I was able to make it forward towards the front. I came up to 13th place. The feeling was ok, and I was able to overtake some other fast riders as well. That is certainly a positive thing. Nevertheless, we have to develop our motorcycle further."

"On the last lap, however, a technical problem occurred, and the bike stopped. It pains, of course, enormously to lose the surely believed 13th place in the last moment and ultimately to leave this race empty-handed. That's really annoying. I'm also sorry for all the sponsors and fans that I couldn't finish the race. But especially because we worked incredibly hard over the entire duration of the weekend. Everyone really gave their all and then something happens like that. But that's racing, a technical problem can occur again and again. I hope we find a solution for the next races. I think the trouble is smoked no later than tomorrow, once it comes to preparing for the two-day test in Barcelona. We’ve a lot of work to do there and there are also a lot of parts to test again. After this unfortunate outcome, I’m happy if I can move on immediately."
