2019/03/10 - Moto2™ WM 2019: #QatarGP / Race Report

Instructive opening round in Qatar’s desert

For Dominique Aegerter and his MV Agusta Forward Team, Sunday evening first Grand Prix of the season had a positive conclusion in terms of lots of experience gained.

When the lights went on for the 2019 season, Dominique Aegerter left the line from eight row. It was therefore not an easy task for him to achieve his personal goals. Nevertheless, the race initially went on very good for the 28-year-old Swiss Moto2™ star. During the first lap, Aegerter moved forward into the points scoring positions. After 20 exhausting laps at the floodlighted circuit not far from Doha, he just missed four seconds to the top 15.

The next race will take place in three weeks in Argentina.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Idealavoro Forward, MV Agusta F2) - P18:

"The first Grand Prix of the year and at the same time the first for MV Agusta on their return after 42 year is behind us. Because of the latter, I was little bit more excited than usual. On the other hand, I was very ready for the first race with our new project. But I also knew that it wouldn’t be an easy task starting from P24 on the grid. But I left the line pretty well and I was able to work my way up to the top 20 right away. I also had some nice fights with other riders during the whole race. Today’s race was also our first really long distance ridden with this bike. So, we’ve gathered tremendous experience and data in terms of the bike’s behaviours with new tyres and a full tank. For this we could find out some strengths of this bike. Especially when the tyres drop starts."

"At this point, our lap times didn’t slow down dramatically. A big thank you to the entire team, because everyone is working hard putting lots of efforts and energy in this project. These thanks go also to MV Agusta and all sponsors for their support. Finally, I leave this race a bit disappointed. I would have liked to get the first points for the team. But in the end, we lost 26 seconds on the race winners time. That means just over a second per lap. So, we have to reduce this as quickly as possible. We now have two weeks to do our homework and then to come back better prepared in Argentina. There we have to be closer to the top guys right from the start."
