#CatalanGP: TURNAROUND IN QUALIFYING

TURNAROUND IN QUALIFYING

For Saturday afternoon’s qualifying, a backlog in testing and training has become clear for Dominique Aegerter.

Whilst most of the Moto2™ teams and riders took benefit of valuable data collect during a one-day test end of May at the recently modified and completely resurfaced Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, heading therefore already well prepared into this weekend, Dominique Aegerter and his Kiefer Racing team did not have to gather this experience until the last two days. The German team couldn’t participate at this testing because of Aegerter’s injury. Apart from that, a total of three crashes during free practice sessions scratched the confidence of the 27-year-old Swiss rider. However, he is well known as a racing fighter and therefore, round seven of the season has not written off yet.

Race start is scheduled as usual for Sunday at 12:20 pm.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing), Grid position 24th - 1´44.780 (18/19):

"It was not a happy day for us again. I crashed a third time this weekend in the morning session. Luckily, nothing else happened again. My crew did a great job and therefore, I was able to continue the session very shortly after. But since FP1 we weren’t able to improve to the feeling as well as to set up the bike in a way so that I would have come up faster in terms of lap times. In the end, qualifying was a turnaround and we worked in the right direction. I was able to ride faster, and I also had a slightly better feeling with the bike, but it was too late finally because we missed the second and third session to take more out of it. So, this is why I can’t hide the disappointment that I’m that far down the order now. In addition, the gap to pole position with 1.3 seconds is too big. In the fast corners we still lack in corner entry, where we clearly have to improve. That also applies to acceleration, as we need more grip at the rear. Regarding the setup of the bike, we simply lack a lot of experience, as well as the missed test a few weeks ago make this noticeable. But now we have to go through these circumstances and hopefully we will be able to make one step or the other during warm up tomorrow morning so that we again can aim for the top-15 in the race."
