#AustralianGP: DOMINIQUE AEGERTER SHOWS FIGHTING SPIRIT TO ACHIEVE ANOTHER TOP TEN

DOMINIQUE AEGERTER SHOWS FIGHTING SPIRIT TO ACHIEVE ANOTHER TOP TEN

An incident in the second lap of the race, however, prevented the Swiss rider to achieve a better result than eighth place.

On race day at the Australian Grand Prix, the weather appeared once more in its moodiest way. Constantly changing conditions from the morning with rain and a rapidly drying track made things extremely difficult. After a rainy warm-up session, however, the sun came out in time for the Moto2™ race.

Dominique Aegerter, who qualified for eighth position on the starting grid on Saturday after he started so strong into the weekend during the first free practice sessions, was confident for the race because of good signs for a dry race. Aegerter finally left the line perfectly and was amongst the leading group immediately. In lap two, however, he lost his promising position when the German rider Marcel Schrötter and Italian Mattia Pasini crashed in front of him. For the remaining distance, Aegerter was involved in a big group, battling hard for positions till the line.

The Championshiop moves over for the third and final flyaway race this year in Malaysia in just a couple of days.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing, Suter MMX2), 8th (Championship position 12th, 82 points):

"The race actually started very promising. After a good start, I was amongst the leading group. But then, Marcel and Pasini crashed in front of me during the second lap. I had to be careful in this situation in order to avoid hitting them and when I ran wide, I lost ten positions. Afterwards, I was able to catch up again a bit, but I never got the first chasing group. I have always given everything, but it was a tough battle till the line in my group. On these long straights here, playing with the slipstream is normal and at these two hard breaking points, again and again riders touched each other."

"In the end, it was a huge fight till the line which I actually could decide for myself. But on the last straight I got passed by Corsi who was using my slipstream to his advantage. Apart from that, I’m not 100 percent happy with my race. But this is racing and in a race, an incident like today can happen at any time. In this respect, it is also a bit of luck. Fortunate, that both Marcel and Mattia escaped unhurt, they are ok. On myself, on the other hand, I was able to finish the race and get some valuable points."
