#JapanGP: STRONG OPENING DAY OF ACTION ON A RAINY FRIDAY

STRONG OPENING DAY OF ACTION ON A RAINY FRIDAY

Under difficult conditions during both Friday’s free practice sessions, Dominique Aegerter delivered an encouraging start to the weekend in Japan.

Just like three weeks ago in Aragón, a change in the weather caused unfriendly conditions with rain showers and significant cooler temperatures on day one of action at the Japanese Motegi circuit today. The forecasts predict, however, the same for the remaining weekend. Therefore, teams and riders used both Friday’s session extensively to prepare for a possible wet race this Sunday.

Dominique Aegerter, who was victorious in the rainy Misano race last month, showed on his return to Japan not only his love for the Twin Ring but also that it is to count with the 27-year-old Swiss rider on the gripy track in wet conditions this time too. Aegerter concluded two time in the top ten today.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing, Suter MMX2), FP1: P6 - 2´06.654 (18/18) / FP2: P8 - 2´06.873 (21/21):

"First of all, I would like to say that it is nice to be back in Motegi after two years missing this race. This track is one of my favourites as it suits my riding so much and I like the enthusiastic fans; it’s nice to meet many of them again. The weekend started with lots of rain but under wet conditions, the riding is different than it was in Misano last time. The tarmac here provides more grip in the wet. Our positions after the first sessions with sixth and eighth are fine but the more important things are that we were very consistent today. During FP2 I did not stop actually so this meant the tyre lasted more than a race distance and yet our pace was still fast and consistent."

"The weather, however, should be the same all weekend long, maybe a bit better tomorrow but with rainy conditions on Sunday again. Form this point of view, we have done valuable work today. With our rain setup, we are already well prepared. In general, I have a good feeling, although I do not quite feel the limit. But this can also be a good sign that there is still room for more potential. Nevertheless, I hope for a dry race on Sunday because it is simply more nice and safe to race in dry conditions. Let’s see how the weather will appear in the end but I have also good memories of a wet rain since last month."
