2026/10/16 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣: Spanish Round / Friday's Free Practice & Tissot Superpole

Jerez Friday ends with a season best second row start

As the current championship enters its final stages, Dominique Aegerter is once again demonstrating his unshakable fighting spirit and determination by holding his own against the frontrunners in Supersport class aboard his Kawasaki on the first day of the season’s finale in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain.

The Circuito de Jerez is a very familiar territory for Dominique Aegerter. However, the same is true for virtually all of his competitors in the highly competitive Supersport World Championship, as nearly every rider has already completed numerous test and race laps at the Andalusian racetrack.

More progress, made last weekend in Estoril, has given Dominique Aegerter added motivation and further fuelled his appetite for success as he aims to end this season in style. The 35-year-old Swiss rider was in high spirits right from the start of Friday’s Free Practice and once again demonstrated his improved competitiveness. He finished the free session just before noon in 10th place, somewhat more than half a second behind the fastest time.

Buoyed by his strong start into the weekend and the good feeling he had with his race bike, Aegerter was very confident heading into Superpole. Under ideal conditions, it was right to see that he and his team had made further progress regarding Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636’s setup. On his twelfth of 17 laps during the 40-minute session in the afternoon, Aegerter set a personal best of 1’41.476 on the hot Spanish asphalt. This was 1.2 seconds faster than his time from that morning and just 0.4 seconds behind the pole position time. Aegerter missed the front row by just 0.014 seconds.

The second-last race of the season will start on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CEST.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636)
Superpole: P4 - 1´41.476 +0.392 | Grid position 4

«I’m really happy about my best Superpole of the season achieved today. It was definitely a positive first day, because free practice also went according to plan, and tomorrow we’ll start the race from the second row. I definitely want to take advantage of that and, if possible, avoid the usual scramble on the first lap. I’m really glad that, after a difficult season, we’re becoming more competitive bit by bit and achieved this result today. We’ve proven once again that the entire team and I are pulling together and won’t give up until Sunday. So far, I’m satisfied, and we’ll continue to do our best to achieve a great result tomorrow. But first of all, thank you very much to everyone for their hard work.»
